Jeffers Boys Hoops in Quarterfinals Tonight – Tuesday Sports Wrap

High School

The Jeffers boys basketball team will face Munising in the state quarterfinals tonight at 7:00 at Negaunee. The Jets head into the game with a record of 25-1. The Mustangs are 24-1.

Houghton skier Eli Heathman has been named to the Division Two All State First Team.

Youth Hockey

The Copper Country Junior Hockey Association is hosting a series of free skate and hockey sessions for girls tonight and tomorrow at the Houghton County Arena. Girls of all skill levels are invited to spend some time on the ice, and try out the sport. All participants must wear a helmet on the ice. Girls are encouraged to bring their own equipment, but a limited amount of sticks and hockey equipment will be available for those who do not have their own. Sessions have been assigned to various age groups as follows:

Tonight –
 • 5:45-6:45 8U, 10U
 • 7:00-8:00 12U, 14U
 • 8:15-9:15 19U

Tomorrow –
 • 6:45-7:45 8U, 10U
 • 8:00-9:00 12U, 14U

NHL

The Red Wings lost to the Panthers 5-2 last night. Pius Suter and Dylan Larkin scored for Detroit. Ville Husso made 20 saves.

The Wings skate at Saint Louis tonight. Coverage will begin at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons visit the Hawks tonight.

MLB

The Tigers fell 5-0 to the Blue Jays yesterday. Starter Michael Lorenzen was pulled before the game because of groin tightness, so four Tigers relievers combined to hold the Blue Jays to just two hits over the first seven innings. All of Toronto’s runs came in the eighth and ninth. Riley Greene had two hits, including a triple.

The Tigers play the Yankees today. Spencer Turnbull will start for Detroit. Coverage will begin at 1:00 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers dropped a 7-2 decision to the Mariners yesterday. Starter Brandon Woodruff pitched into the fifth, and was touched for five runs on six hits.

The Brewers face the White Sox this afternoon. Freddy Peralta will start for Milwaukee.

NFL

The Lions continue to be busy on the free agent market. Offensive lineman Graham Glasgow is returning to the team after three seasons with the Broncos. Two-time Pro Bowl long snapper Jake McQuaide has signed a one-year deal after two seasons with the Cowboys. And, they confirmed the signing of safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, who had six interceptions with the Eagles last season.

The Packers have re-signed cornerback Corey Ballentine and safety Rudy Ford.
