Jets Play for Volleyball Regional Title Tonight – Thursday Sports Wrap

Jeffers will face Carney-Nadeau in the high school volleyball regional finals tonight. The match begins at 7:00 at Westwood High School.

The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team plays at Minnesota State-Mankato tonight.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings visit the Los Angeles Kings tonight. Because of NFL football, coverage begins at 10:10 on KBear 102.3.

The Wings have officially placed Justin Abdelkader and Patrik Nemeth on injured reserve. Jonathan Ericsson has been brought up from Grand Rapids to help fill in.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons visit the Charlotte Hornets tomorrow. Coverage begins at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

Add another player to Detroit’s injury list. Guard Khyri Thomas has undergone foot surgery, and will miss at least six weeks.

NFL

Former Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander has won the American League Cy Young Award. Verlander helped the Houston Astros claim the American League pennant this year. He led the league with 21 victories. Verlander’s first Cy Young came in 2011 with the Tigers. He was also named the league’s Most Valuable Player that year.

The Detroit Sports Media has named Harold Castro the Tigers’ Rookie of the Year. Castro hit .291 in 97 games, and played every position except pitcher and catcher.
