High School
Calumet’s run in the high school football tournament ended Saturday with a 20-8 loss at Boyne City. The Copper Kings dominated early play, but three scoring drives stalled – one on a turnover, and two on unsuccessful fourth down plays inside the 20 yard line. The Calumet defense held the Ramblers’ offense in check until Tarin Bell broke loose for a 95-yard touchdown run with 4:28 remaining in the first half. Tanner Kruzel ripped off a 63-yard touchdown run in the final minute of the first half, and Boyne City led 14-0 at the break. Robert Erkkila finally found the endzone for the Copper Kings early in the fourth quarter to make the score 14-8. Turnovers continued to plague Calumet, though, and they could get no closer. Boyne’s Malik Smith closed out the scoring with an 11-yard touchdown run with four minutes remaining. The Copper Kings close their season with a record of 8-3, and the WestPAC title.

You can see a full video replay of the game through the Boyne City High School website here.
