High School
The boys high school basketball tournament opened last night…
– In the Class C semifinals, Calumet edged Hancock 59-55. Houghton advanced to the district final with a 47-38 win over L’Anse. Sam Keskimaki led the Gremlins with 18 points. The Copper Kings and Gremlins will play for the district crown tomorrow night at 7:00 Calumet. Pregame coverage will begin around 6:40 on 97.7 The Wolf and TheWolf.com
– In Class D at Dollar Bay, Dollar Bay-Tamarack City continued its unbeaten season with a 47-24 win over Chassell. Jaden Janke led the Blue Bolts with 22 points. The Blue Bolts will meet Baraga tomorrow night at 5:30. Ontonagon advanced with a 61-48 victory over Jeffers. Ed Polakowski scored 15 for the Gladiators, who will face Lake Linden-Hubbell tomorrow night at 7:30.

Ewen-Trout Creek survived a major scare against Forest Park. The Trojans led by 12 at the end of the third quarter. Eighth-grader Jaden Borseth sank a three pointer with eight seconds remaining to force overtime, and Jake Witt hit the game-winner as the Panthers eked out a 46-45 victory. Ewen-Trout Creek will face Bessemer on Wednesday.

The girls regional semifinals will be played tonight…
– In Class C, Houghton faces St. Ignace at 7:30 at Escanaba. Our coverage will begin around 7:10 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
– In Class D, Chassell faces Munising at 7:45 Eastern Time at Kingsford.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University baseball team opened its Florida schedule with two lopsided losses to St. John’s yesterday. The Lions dropped the opening game 17-2, and then were shut out 21-0. Finlandia will face Defiance College this morning.

After a day off yesterday, the Finlandia University softball team will take on Franklin College and Pittsburgh-Greensburg today.

NBA
The fading Detroit Pistons dropped a 112-90 decision to the Cleveland Cavaliers last night. Blake Griffin led the Pistons with 25 points. Detroit has lost three in a row, and nine of its last 11 games. The Pistons host the Toronto Raptors tomorrow night. Pregame coverage begins at 7:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings visit the Boston Bruins tonight. Pregame coverage begins at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB
In spring training baseball, Mike Fiers gave up two runs in the first inning, and the Detroit Tigers lost 4-2 to the New York Mets yesterday. The Tigers face the New York Yankees this afternoon.

The Milwaukee Brewers had yesterday off, and will meet the Chicago White Sox this afternoon.

Bob Olson
Funeral services will be held this afternoon in Middletown, Connecticut, for longtime Copper Country broadcaster and community leader Bob Olson. He passed away Saturday at age 87. Olson purchased Hancock radio stations WMPL and WZRK in 1969, and soon became the on-air voice of Michigan Tech Athletics. He called Huskies hockey games for 32 seasons, established the first college hockey weekly rankings, and helped to move the sport onto a national stage. He was inducted into the MTU Sports Hall of Fame in 1994, and received similar honors from many other organizations, including the Western Collegiate Hockey Association and the American Hockey Coaches Association.
