Lakes Advance, Jets Fall in Boys Hoops Regional Semis – Wednesday Sports Wrap

High School

In boys tournament regional semifinals last night…
• In Division Three, Jeffers’ fine season ended with a 64-39 loss to Menominee. The Jets close with a record of 23-2. The Maroons will face Elk Rapids for the regional title tomorrow.
• In Division Four, Lake Linden-Hubbell advanced to the regional final with a 47-41 victory over Wakefield-Marenisco. Forest Park defeated North Central 45-31 in the other semifinal. The Lakes and Trojans will play for the regional crown tomorrow at 7:00 at Negaunee.

Girls basketball district semifinals will be played tonight…
• In Division Three, Calumet hosts West Iron County at 6:00. Coverage will begin at 5:40 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3. Gwinn plays at Westwood in the other district semifinal.
• In Division Four, District 97 at Ironwood, Bessemer will take on the host Red Devils in the early game, and Ontonagon will tip off against Ewen-Trout Creek in the nightcap.
• In Division Four, District 98, Jeffers will play at Lake Linden-Hubbell at 6:00. Hancock will host Chassell at 6:00.
• In Division Four, District 99, L’Anse plays at Ishpeming at 6:00. Baraga hosts Forest Park at 6:00.

College Basketball

The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference basketball tournament opens tonight.

The Michigan Tech women’s team is seeded fourth, and will host fifth-seed Parkside tonight at 6:00. The men’s team is seeded fifth, and will open at fourth-seed Grand Valley State.

Both Northern Michigan teams will be hosting their opening games. The third-seed women’s team will play sixth-seed Wayne State. The top-seed men’s team will face eighth-seed Purdue Northwest.

In other GLIAC women’s quarterfinals tonight, top-seed Grand Valley State will host eighth-seed Purdue Northwest, and second-seed Ferris State will host seventh-seed Saginaw Valley State.

In other GLIAC men’s quarterfinals, second-seed Lake Superior State will entertain seventh-seed Wayne State. Third-seed Ferris State will host sixth-seed Parkside.

NHL

The Red Wings visit the Avalanche tonight. Coverage will begin at 9:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons lost 118-110 to the Heat last night. Cade Cunningham scored 23 for Detroit, and Simone Fontecchio added 22.

The Pistons host the Nets tomorrow night. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

The Tigers lost 3-0 to the Braves in Grapefruit League play yesterday. Starter Reese Olson tossed three scoreless innings, giving up two hits, and striking out four.

The Tigers have today off, and will play the Blue Jays tomorrow.

The Brewers dropped a 13-8 slugfest to the Giants in Cactus League play yesterday. Starter Jakob Junis was torched for four runs over two innings. Devin Williams struggled in relief, getting just one out in the fourth inning before surrendering two walks, two doubles and a balk. He was charged with four runs. Willy Adames homered.

The Brewers will split their squad for games against Reds and Guardians this afternoon.
