High School

In boys basketball last night…
• Lake Linden-Hubbell outscored Forest Park 65-54. Gabe Popko scored 24 for the Lakes, and Danny Marcotte added 22. Vic Giuliani scored 20 for the Trojans. The Lakes improve to 18-3, with one loss to Houghton, and two to Jeffers. The Trojans drop to 17-4. Both teams are favored to win their districts next week, and could meet again in the regional final March 7th.

On the boys schedule tonight…
• Houghton journeys to Iron Mountain.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell tips off at Calumet. Coverage will begin around 7:00 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.

On the girls schedule…
• Baraga plays at Bessemer.

In girls boys doubleheaders…
• Chassell entertains Wakefield-Marenisco for Parents and Seniors night.
• Jeffers is celebrating Homecoming and Senior Night. The girls will host Dollar Bay-Tamarack City at 5:30. The boys will face Ewen-Trout Creek around 7:20.

Iron Mountain swept the top honors in this year’s WestPAC basketball awards. Oskar Kangas was named Player of the Year, Matthew Colavecchi was honored as Defensive Player of the Year, and Bucky Johnson earned Coach of the Year. All of the votes were unanimous.

Houghton’s Isaiah Lawson was named to the WestPAC Dream Team, and teammate Luke Hill was placed on the All-Defensive Team. The Copper Division First Team includes Hill and Lane Laux of the Gremlins, Alex Pietila from Hancock, Blake Tarvis from Calumet, and Elijah Oberlin from West Iron County. Copper Division Honorable Mention votes went to Bryce Pugh from Houghton, Alan Bjorn from Calumet, Ned Larson from Hancock, and Abel Lundin from West Iron County.

College Basketball

Both Michigan Tech basketball teams play at Wayne State tonight.

Both Northern Michigan squads tip off at Saginaw Valley State.

The Red Wings entertain the Avalanche this evening. Coverage will start at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Pistons visit the Pacers tonight.
