Tigers Edge Royals
Tyler Collins’ rbi single in the seventh inning broke open a tie game, and the Tigers went on to take a 3-2 victory over the Royals Saturday. Collins’ pinch hit came a half inning after Kansas City appeared to take the lead… only to have the run nullified when Hernan Perez noticed from the Tigers’ bench that the runner had not tagged third base. Manager Brad Ausmus called it to the attention of the umpires, who conferred, and erased the run. Max Scherzer gave up one run on seven hits over seven innings to earn his 17th win of the season.

The Tigers wrap up that series at Kansas City this afternoon. Rick Porcello will start against Jeremy Guthrie. Hear the first pitch at 2:10 on FM 99.3 and AM 1400, WCCY.

The victory increases Detroit’s lead over Kansas City to two-and-a-half games in the American League Central Division. The Tigers have eight games remaining in the regular season. Any combination of seven Detroit win or Kansas City losses will clinch the title for the Tigers.

Brewers Blank Bucs
The Brewers kept their fading post-season hopes alive with a 1-0 victory over the Pirates Saturday. Logan Schafer’s pinch-hit sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth drove in the only run of the game.

The Brewers conclude that series at Pittsburgh this afternoon. Wily Peralta will pitch against Vance Worley.

Saint Louis won, so Milwaukee remains seven games out of first place in the National League Central Division. The next Cardinals’ win or Brewers’ loss eliminates Milwaukee from title contention. The Pirates now hold a three-and-a-half game advantage over the Brewers in the race for the second wild card playoff position.
