Lake Linden Hubbell Logo– Calumet stopped L’Anse 58-33.
– Houghton fell to Escanaba 54-44.
– Lake Linden-Hubbell defeated Chassell 35-27.
– Jeffers got past Baraga 36-34. The win by the Lakes and loss by the Vikings gives Lake Linden-Hubbell sole possession of first place in the Copper Country Conference. The Jets move into a second-place tie with Baraga.
– Dollar Bay downed Ewen-Trout Creek 55-37.
– Ontonagon dispatched Watersmeet 62-32.

In boys’ hoops tonight…

MTU Sweeps FSU
The 13th-ranked Michigan Tech women’s basketball team won its 10th-straight game last night, defeating Ferris State 72-61. The Huskies put the game away with a 20-3 run to open the second half.  Jillian Ritchie and Danielle Blake each scored 23 points for Tech.

The Huskies men’s team overcame a seven point halftime deficit, and beat the Bulldogs 68-60.  Jordan Chartier led Tech with 20 points.

Both Tech teams play at Grand Valley tomorrow.

The Michigan Tech hockey team hosts Bemidji State in the Winter Carnival series this weekend. Face-offs are at 7:07 tonight, and 5:07 tomorrow night.

NMU Swept at GVSU
Both Northern Michigan basketball teams lost at Grand Valley State last night. The women’s team fall 62-58, while the men dropped a 60-54 decision. Both Wildcats teams play at Ferris State tomorrow.

The NMU hockey teams skates at Minnesota-Duluth tonight and tomorrow night.

Finlandia
Finlandia Lions New LogoThe Finlandia men’s hockey team visits Marian University tonight and tomorrow afternoon. The women’s hockey team skates at Concordia-Wisconsin tonight, and Marian University tomorrow afternoon.

Both Finlandia basketball teams travel to Rochester, Michigan to take on Alfred State College tomorrow.

The Calumet Wolverines skate at Mosinee tonight, and visit the Monroe Blues tomorrow night. The Portage Lake Pioneers have the weekend off.

NHL – Red Wings Blank Avalanche
Petr Mrazek made 28 saves, as the Red Wings shut out the Avalanche 3-0 last night. Justin Abdelkader’s power play goal in the second period was the only score in the game until Darren Helm and Luke Glendening added empty-netters in the closing minutes. The Wings skate at Phoenix tomorrow night. Faceoff is at 8:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

NBA – Pistons Host Nuggets
The Pistons host the Nuggets tonight. Tip-off is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

Bigfoot Snowshoe Event Tomorrow
The annual Bigfoot Snowshoe Event will be held tomorrow as part of Winter Carnival on the Tech Trails. Courses of approximately 2k and 4k are available. For full details and sign-up information, click here.

Barneløpet Set for Sunday
The annual Barneløpet children’s Nordic ski event will be held on the Maasto Hiihto trails on Sunday. Kids ages three through 17 are invited to participate. Register at 1:00 at the Chalet in Hancock. MLB – Martinez Hurts Knee
Detroit Tigers’ designated hitter Victor Martinez will undergo surgery Tuesday, after tearing cartilage in his knee during a workout last week. Team officials say they won’t know how long Martinez will be sidelined until after the surgery. The best-case scenario would be six weeks… the worst-case would be six months.
