L’Anse Wins Volleyball Bay Battle – Friday Sports Wrap

High School
In high school volleyball last night…
– In the Battle of the Bay, L’Anse defeated Baraga 3-1 (25-22, 25-16, 15-25, 25-12).
– Lake Linden-Hubbell downed Wakefeld-Marenisco 3-1.
– Ewen-Trout Creek edged Watersmeet 3-2.

In volleyball tomorrow…
– Houghton plays at the Pulaski Invitational at Pulaski, Wisconsin.
– Calumet travels to the Cadillac Invitational
– Lake Linden-Hubbell and L’Anse compete at the Forest Park Invitational.

Results from the Hancock Cross Country Invitational at McLain State Park were not reported.

In high school football tonight…
– Houghton plays at Calumet – pregame coverage begins around 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
– Hancock visits L’Anse.
– Lake Linden-Hubbell has the week off.
– Ontonagon travels to Rapid River.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University volleyball team heads to Wisconsin-River Falls, where they’ll face the host Falcons this afternoon, St. Thomas University this evening, and Saint Olaf College and Wisconsin-Stevens Point tomorrow.

Tomorrow, the women’s soccer team entertains Mount Mary University at 1:00, and the men host Maranatha Baptist at 3:00. We’ll bring you both games on the Voice of the Lions, 99.3 The Lift and 993TheLift.com. Pregame coverage will begin at 12:40.

MTU
The Michigan Tech soccer team entertains Northwood University tonight at 7:00.

The Tech volleyball team welcomes Lake Superior State tonight at 5:00, and Saginaw Valley State tomorrow at 4:00.

The Huskies football team hosts Grand Valley State tomorrow. Kickoff is at 1:00. The game will be live-streamed by ESPN.

Senior forward Brent Baltus has been named the captain of the Tech hockey team for the upcoming season. Joel L’Esperance, Dylan Steman, Jake Lucchini, and Mitch Reinke will serve as alternate captains.

NMU
The Northern Michigan University football team plays at Ferris State tomorrow night.

MLB
The Chicago White Sox rattled out 25 hits, and pounded the Detroit Tigers 17-7 yesterday. Former Tiger Avisaíl García had five of those hits, and drove in seven runs. Detroit got home runs from Miguel Cabrera, Nicholas Castellanos, Jeimer Candelario and Ian Kinsler. Starter Chad Bell was chased in the fourth inning, and was charged with six runs.

The Tigers have lost 12 of 14 in September, and entertain the White Sox again tonight. Anibal Sanchez will start against Carson Fulmer. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers had yesterday off, and play the Marlins tonight. That series was originally scheduled for Miami, but has been moved to Milwaukee because of Hurricane Irma.

The Cubs and Cardinals both won yesterday, so Milwaukee and Saint Louis are tied for second place in the National League Central Division, three games behind Chicago.

NFL
In last night’s NFL game, the Texans got past the Bengals 13-9. This weekend, the Packers play at Atlanta in the Sunday night game, and the Lions face the Giants Monday night in New York.

Keweenaw Roller Girls
The Keweenaw Roller Girls wrap up their 2017 home schedule by hosting the Kingsford Krush tomorrow night. Doors at the Colosseum open at 5:00. If you’d like to try roller derby for yourself, the Roller Girls will host another open session Sunday at noon at the Colosseum. All ladies 18 and older are invited. Equipment will be provided.
