Lions Introduce Coach Campbell – Friday Sports Wrap

College Hockey

The Michigan Tech hockey team returns to the ice this weekend, with a home series against Lake Superior State University. Games begin tonight at 6:07 and tomorrow at 4:07.

The Northern Michigan University hockey squad is off this weekend. Their series at Alabama-Huntsville has been postponed because the Chargers have had some positive COVID-19 tests.

College Basketball

The Michigan Tech basketball teams also play Lake Superior State this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon. The women are at home, and the men at the Soo.

The Northern Michigan University basketball teams face Ferris State University this weekend. The men play in Big Rapids today and tomorrow. The women meet in Marquette tomorrow and Sunday.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings visit the Chicago Blackhawks tonight. Coverage begins at 7:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Detroit will be without defenseman Jon Merrill and forward Sam Gagner, who have been added to the COVID-19 list.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons host the Houston Rockets this evening.

MLB

With longtime Milwaukee Brewers third base coach Ed Seder moving off the field into an advisory role, Jason Lane will move from first base to the third base box. Newcomer Quintin Berry will take over at first base.

NFL

The Detroit Lions formally introduced their new head coach yesterday. In an emotional opening statement, Dan Campbell said he understands the frustration that Lions fans feel with the lack of success the club has had. He promised that the team will reflect the gritty, hard-working nature of the city of Detroit.

Former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator and interim head coach Darrell Bevell is reportedly set to join the Jacksonville Jaguars as their offensive coordinator.

The NFL is mourning the death of former Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson. Over 13 seasons, Thompson led the Pack to four NFC championship games, and a victory in Super Bowl XLV. He passed away Wednesday at his home in Texas, at age 68.

This year’s conference championship games will be played Sunday. The Packers host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 3:05, and the Kansas City Chiefs welcome the Buffalo Bills at 6:40. Hear both games on 99.3 The Lift.
