The Detroit Tigers ended their season with a 5-3 loss to the Chicago White Sox yesterday. Spencer Turnbull gave up an unearned run in the first inning, then left as the Sox scored four times in the sixth. Miguel Cabrera and Ronny Rodriguez homered.

The Tigers finish the season with a record of 47-114. It’s the second-worst season in team history, and the worst record in baseball – but, it assures that Detroit will have the top pick in this spring’s amateur draft.

The Milwaukee Brewers fell to the Colorado Rockies 4-3 yesterday. Colorado scored the winning run on a wild pitch by Jake Faria in the bottom of the 13th inning. Yasmani Grandal and Hernán Pérez homered.

The Brewers will face the Nationals in Washington in the National League Wild Card play-in game tomorrow evening. Brandon Woodruff will start against Max Scherzer.

NHL

The latest round of Detroit Red Wings cuts includes one of the players who scored twice in Thursday’s Kraft Hockeyville game in Calumet. Michael Rasmussen was sent to the Grand Rapids Griffins yesterday, along with first-round draft pick Moritz Seider. The Wings now have 26 players on their roster. They need to reduce that to 23 before Saturday’s regular-season opener.

NFL

The Kansas City Chiefs’ touchdown with two minutes remaining gave them a 34-30 victory over the Detroit Lions yesterday. Matthew Stafford threw for 291 yards and three touchdowns. Kerryon Johnson rushed for 125 yards.

Detroit tight end T.J. Hockenson is okay after a scary collision which saw him land on his head. He was talking with family and friends on the sideline after the game, but will undergo concussion protocol.
