Lions, Packers Win – Monday Sports Wrap

High School

In high school cross country today, local teams will compete at the Calumet Invitational at the Swedetown Trails.

The MTU soccer team blanked Minnesota-Crookston 2-0 yesterday. Gabby Sgambati and Maisy Snyder scored for the Huskies. Tech outshot the Golden Eagles 19-3. Tech goalkeeper Gracie VanLangevelde didn’t need to make a save.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers fell 8-2 to the Baltimore Orioles yesterday. Edwin Jackson gave up five runs over five innings, and took the loss. Detroit pounded out 12 hits, but left 11 runners on base.

The Tigers host the Orioles again this afternoon. Tyler Alexander will pitch against John Means. Pregame coverage begins at 3:45 on 99.3 The Lift. 

Ryan Braun’s grand slam in the top of the ninth put the Brewers ahead, and Milwaukee hung on to edge the Saint Louis Cardinals 7-6 yesterday. Braun’s blow established a three-run lead. Josh Hader gave up two runs in the ninth before closing out his 33rd save.

The Brewers entertain the San Diego Padres tonight. Zach Davies will start against Garrett Richards.

The Cubs also won, so Saint Louis now leads Chicago by two games in the National League Central Division, with Milwaukee three games back, and one game out of the second wild card playoff berth.

NFL

The Green Bay Packers scored all their points in the first half, and defeated the Minnesota Vikings 21-16 yesterday. Aaron Rodgers threw two touchdown passes.

The Detroit Lions edged the Los Angeles Chargers 13-10 yesterday. Matthew Stafford’s 31-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Golladay midway through the fourth quarter gave Detroit the lead. Darius Slay preserved the win with an interception in the end zone with a minute remaining.

In last night’s contest, the Atlanta Falcons scored a late touchdown to shade the Philadelphia Eagles 24-20.

Tonight, the Cleveland Browns face the New York Jets. Hear the broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.
