Lions Remain Winless in NFL – Monday Sports Wrap

MLB – Tigers
The Minnesota Twins scored six times off Randy Wolf in the second inning, and beat the Detroit Tigers 7-1 yesterday. Wolf left the game with two outs in the second. Details are here.

The Tigers open their final road trip of the season this evening against the Texas Rangers. Justin Verlander will start against Colby Lewis. Hear the first pitch at 8:05 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

The Milwaukee Brewers scored seven runs in the top of the ninth inning, and stunned the Saint Louis Cardinals 8-4 yesterday. Jason Rodgers gave Milwaukee the lead with a pinch-hit grand slam. Khris Davis homered twice. Game details are here.

The Brewers have today off, and open a series at San Diego tomorrow night. Jorge Lopez will make his major-league debut for Milwaukee. Tyson Ross will start for the Padres.

High School
The Team Copper Country U18 hockey squad lost both games against the Soo Indians this weekend – 6-3 Saturday evening, and 5-1 Sunday morning.

Local cross country teams will run at the Houghton Invitational on the Tech Trails today.

The MTU soccer team defeated Ohio Dominican 3-1 yesterday. Jacqueline Mielke scored twice. Details are here.

The Finlandia University men’s soccer team plays at Lincoln Christian University this afternoon.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings host the Boston Bruins in preseason play tonight.

NFL
The Detroit Lions remained winless with a 24-12 loss to the Denver Broncos in the NFL Sunday night game. The Lions were held to just 28 yards rushing. Denver’s Peyton Manning passed for 324 yards and two touchdowns. Details are here.

The Green Bay Packers entertain the Kansas City Chiefs in tonight’s game.
