Lions Sign Defensive Back – Friday Sports Wrap

Finlandia University has signed up two more athletes. Martin Zapata is a soccer player who led his team in points and assists at Cypress Bay High School in Weston, Florida. Jordan D’Angelo is a baseball infielder from West Bend, Wisconsin. has committed to play for the Finlandia University baseball team. His brother, Jimmy, is also a member of the Lions baseball team.

NFL

The Detroit Lions have signed a one-year deal with defensive back Darryl Roberts. Roberts started 10 games at cornerback and safety for the New York Jets last season, but was recently released.

MLB

Former major league pitcher and longtime Chicago White Sox broadcaster Ed Farmer has died. Farmer pitched in 370 games over 11 big-league seasons, mostly in relief. He saved 30 games for the White Sox in 1980. He went on to call Chicago games for 28 seasons. Ed Farmer was 70 years old. No cause of death has been announced, but a lengthy battle against kidney disease had forced him out of the booth late last season.
