In girls’ high school basketball Friday night…
– WestPAC leader Houghton shut down West Iron County 55-29. Sloane Zenner of the Gremlins led all scorers with 17 points. See video highlights from the game here.
– Hancock stopped Chassell 51-37.
– Lake Linden-Hubbell held on to first place in the Copper Country Conference with a narrow 38-36 victory over Ontonagon.
– Jeffers upended Baraga 44-31.
– L’Anse defeated Dollar Bay 41-30.

In boys’ high school basketball Friday, Dollar Bay fell to Ewen-Trout Creek 62-38.

In Great Lakes Hockey League action, the result of the Portage Lake Pioneers’ game against the Mosinee Papermakers Friday night was not reported. The Pioneers visit the Monroe Blues tonight. The Calumet Wolverines have the weekend off.

Pietila’s OT Goal Lifts Huskies
Blake Pietila’s goal 2:46 into overtime gave the Michigan Tech hockey team a 4-3 victory over Alaska-Anchorage Friday night. Joel L’Esperance scored twice, including the game-tying goal as the Huskies came back from a 3-1 deficit. Jamie Phillips made 25 saves. The Huskies host the Nanooks again tonight. Face-off is at 7:07 at MacInnes Arena. Link to video highlights of Friday’s game here.

Both Michigan Tech basketball teams play at Saginaw Valley State this afternoon.

NMU Squanders Big Lead at PSU
The Northern Michigan hockey team scored four goals in the second period to take a 4-1 lead, but Penn State closed the game with four unanswered goals to earn a 5-4 victory. Barrett Kaib scored twice for the Wildcats, who skate at Penn State again tonight.

Both Northern Michigan University basketball teams play at Hillsdale today.

Finlandia Men Stun Adrian
The Finlandia men’s hockey team upset 8th-ranked Adrian College 3-0 Friday night. The game was scoreless until Lane King found the net in the third period. Calumet’s Lucas Lahnala added a short-handed insurance goal, and Thomas Clayton sealed the victory with an empty-netter in the closing seconds. Lions’ goalie Andrew Brownlee stopped 41 shots to earn the shutout. It was the first victory for the Lions in 16 meetings between the two squads. They’ll face off again this afternoon at 4:00 at the Houghton County Arena.

The Finlandia women’s team fell at Adrian 10-1 Friday night. The Lions were outshot 58-9. The Lady Lions and Bulldogs will meet again this afternoon.

The Finlandia women’s basketball team plays at Maranatha Baptist Bible University this afternoon.

NHL – Red Wings
After the All-Star break, the Red Wings will return to action Tuesday at Carolina. Faceoff is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

NBA – Pistons Prepare for Bucks
The Pistons play at Milwaukee tonight. Tip-off is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
