LL-H Football Falls in State Semifinal – Sunday Sports Wrap

High School

The Lake Linden-Hubbell football team’s season ended with a close 42-36 loss to unbeaten Marion in an Eight-Player Division Two state semifinal Saturday. The Lakes led 14-8 at halftime, and the teams traded touchdowns until the Eagles’ Aaron Whitney scored the game-winner with a minute remaining. After falling in the state semifinals in each of the last three years, Marion advances to face Adrian Lenawee Christian for the state championship next Saturday at 2:00 at the Superior Dome.

• In Eight Player Division One, Pickford fell to Inland Lakes 12-0 Saturday. The Bulldogs will face Martin for the state crown next Saturday at 11:00 at the Superior Dome.
• In Division Eight, Iron Mountain lost at Beal City 20-6 Friday night.
• In Division Seven, Menominee routed McBain 40-0 Saturday. The Maroons will face North Muskegon in a state semifinal Saturday at Gaylord.
• In Division Six, Gladstone fell at Kingsley 51-27 Friday night.
• In Division Five, Kingsford’s season ended with a 35-13 loss at Frankenmuth Saturday.

College Hockey

The Michigan Tech hockey team’s three game win streak ended with a 6-4 loss at Bemidji State Saturday evening. The Huskies built an early 4-0 lead, with goals from Isaac Gordon, Jack Works, Ryland Mosely and Marcus Pederson. The Beavers stormed back with six unanswered goals, beginning late in the second period. Blake Pietila took the loss, stopping 26 shots.

Josh Zinger’s overtime goal lifted Northern Michigan to a 4-3 victory over Lake Superior State Saturday night.

College Volleyball

The Michigan Tech volleyball team ended its regular season with a 3-2 (19-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-18, 8-15) loss at Lake Superior State Saturday. Meg Raabe had 26 kills and 13 digs. Tess Hayes recorded 50 assists and 12 digs.

Northern Michigan lost 3-0 (12-25, 16-25, 11-25) at Ferris State Saturday.

Tech is seeded fourth in the upcoming Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament, and will host fifth-seed Northern in the opening round Wednesday at 6:00.

College Football

Michigan Tech wrapped up its football season with a 38-21 loss to Saginaw Valley State Saturday. Ethan Champney caught three touchdown passes – two from Alex Fries, and one from Joe Hartlieb. The Huskies finish with a record of 5-5 overall, but went just 1-5 in the GLIAC.

NMU concluded a winless season with a 44-20 loss to Northern State.

College Basketball

The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team overpowered Lewis University 83-64 at the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge Saturday. Alex Rondorf and Alyssa Wypych led a balanced Huskies attack with 14 points each.

The NMU women’s team outscored William Jewell 83-64 at the Challenge Saturday.

The Tech and Northern men’s teams are at the JustAGame Crossover Tournament at Wisconsin Dells.

The Huskies lost a close 75-75 decision to Missouri S and T Saturday afternoon. Marcus Tomashek led the Huskies with 27 points and nine rebounds. Tech will face Upper Iowa this afternoon.

Northern downed Upper Iowa 85-75 Saturday, and will take on Missouri S and T today.

College Soccer

The NMU women’s soccer team will face Parkside in the GLIAC tournament championship game today at 1:00 in Marquette.

NHL

The Red Wings shaded the Blue Jackets 5-4 Saturday afternoon. Lucas Raymond, Robby Fabbri, Alex DeBrincat, Daniel Sprong and Jake Walman scored for Detroit. Ville Husso made 18 saves.

The Wings head to Stockholm, where they’ll meet the Senators on Thursday. Coverage will begin at 1:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons visit the Bulls tonight.

NFL

The Packers visit the Steelers for a 1:00 game today. Linebacker Quay Walker and cornerback Jaire Alexander have been tagged as doubtful for the game.

The Lions visit the Chargers for a 4:05 contest today, with coverage on 99.3 The Lift. Guard Jonah Jackson, center Frank Ragnow and running back David Montgomery are expected to return to the lineup. Newly-acquired receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones could miss the game because of a rib injury.

The Raiders host the Jets in the Sunday night game, also broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.
