LL-H’s Crouch to Join Finlandia Football – Saturday Sports Wrap

Matt Manning struggled, as the Detroit Tigers lost to the Cleveland Indians 6-1 last night. Manning gave up six runs on 10 hits over four innings, and took the loss. Detroit batters collected seven hits, but struck out 12 times. Jeimer Candelario’s ninth-inning single drove home Akil Badoo for Detroit’s only run.

The Tigers continue that series in Cleveland tonight. Tyler Alexander will start against Eli Morgan. Coverage will begin at 6:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

Rowdy Tellez’ single in the bottom of the 10th inning drove home Avisaíl García with the winning run, as the Milwaukee Brewers shaded the San Francisco Giants 2-1 last night. García ‘s second-inning homer provided the Crew’s other score. Corbin Burnes gave up a run over seven innings. Brent Suter got the win in relief.

The Brewers host the Giants again tonight. Brandon Woodruff will pitch against Aaron Sanchez.

Adrian Houser is the latest Brewer to test positive for COVID-19. He’ll miss at least 10 days. Meanwhile, some of the earliest victims in the team’s current flare-up are getting ready to return. Christian Yelich is eligible, and says he feels fine. Yelich was vaccinated, and reports his symptoms were very mild, and lasted just a couple of days.

College Football

Former Lake Linden-Hubbell standout Carter Crouch is joining the Finlandia University football team. Crouch is transferring in from Michigan Tech, where he had been recruited as a defensive back. The Lions are introducing him as a quarterback. He excelled at both positions for the Lakes.

Carter’s dad, former Lake Linden head coach Andy Crouch, has also joined the Lions’ football staff as Director of High School Relations, and running backs and tight ends coach.

College Softball

The Finlandia University softball team has also introduced a new player. Sarah Moir is an outfielder from Winnipeg, who is transferring in from Itasca Community College in Minnesota.

Houghton games will air on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97.7 The Wolf, starting with their opener at Westwood Friday, August 27th. Calumet contests will air on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3, beginning with their home game against Gladstone on Friday, August 27th. We’ll also carry all of Lake Linden-Hubbell’s football games, starting Thursday, August 26th when the Lakes visit the Gogebic Miners on KBear 102.3.
