Tigers Fall Back
The Tigers dropped back into second place in the American League Central Division last night, with a soggy 3-0 loss to the Royals. Rick Porcello turned in a strong start, giving up two runs and striking out seven while pitching into the seventh. The Detroit offense could get nothing going against K-C starter James Shields, who allowed just two hits over seven innings.

The Tigers have today off, and open a home set against the Indians tomorrow night. David Price will pitch against Carlos Carrasco. Hear the first pitch at 7:08 on FM 99.3 and AM 1400, WCCY.

Detroit trails Kansas City by one game in the American League Central Division, with 16 games left in the regular season. If the season ended today, they would face Oakland in the wild card play-in game.

Reliever Phil Coke left last night’s game with a lower back injury. He appeared to hurt himself while fielding a bunt. He’ll be evaluated today.

Brewers Snap Losing Streak
The Brewers broke their four-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over the Marlins last night. Wily Peralta won his 16th game of the season, and September call-up Matt Clark homered and drove in two runs.

The Brewers wrap up that home series against the Marlins tonight. Mike Fiers will start against Nathan Eovaldi.

Saint Louis lost, and Pittsburgh won. The Brewers trail the Cardinals by five games in the National League Central Division, and are a game-and-a-half behind the Pirates, who also hold the second wild card berth.

Lions Lose Hilliard for Season
Detroit Lions offensive tackle Corey Hilliard will undergo foot surgery next week, and miss the rest of the season. Hilliard was hurt in the third quarter of Monday night’s victory over the Giants. He finished the game in pain because tackle LaAdrian Waddle had been hurt earlier in the evening. Waddle did not practice yesterday, and his status for Sunday’s game has not been announced. Detroit signed offensive lineman Garrett Reynolds Wednesday morning to take Hilliard’s place on the roster. Reynolds was with the team in training camp and was released during final cuts.

This will be the 20th year of the LSPR, although the event’s roots go all the way back to the original Press On Regardless Rally in 1949. The course will again cover back roads in southern Houghton and Baraga Counties. If you’d like to help, you can fill out the volunteer form and check this year’s schedule here.

Our high school football coverage continues Friday night, as Houghton entertains Ironwood. On Saturday, we’ll bring you Lake Linden-Hubbell’s game against L’Anse. Hear both broadcasts on the Keweenaw’s High School Sports leader, KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
