MLB
Dixon Machado’s home run in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Detroit Tigers to 6-5 victory over the Baltimore Orioles yesterday. Machado’s second major-league homer ended a wild contest that saw the Orioles erase a one-run Tigers lead by scoring three times in the top of the eighth. Detroit reclaimed the lead on a three-run John Hicks homer in the bottom of the eighth. Luis Sardinas tied the score with a pinch-hit homer off Shane Greene in the top of the ninth, setting the stage for Machado’s lead-off blow in the bottom of the inning.  Jeimer Candelario and Miguel Cabrera also homered for Detroit. Matthew Boyd turned in a quality start, giving up a run on two hits before leaving in the seventh inning.

The Tigers conclude that series against the Orioles this afternoon. Jordan Zimmermann will start against Alex Cobb. Pregame coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers shut out the Cincinnati Reds 2-0 yesterday afternoon. The game was a near carbon copy of Tuesday’s 2-0 victory, with Eric Thames again providing all the scoring with a two-run homer. Jacob Barnes earned another two-inning save, after Zach Davies pitched into the seventh inning.

The Brewers host the Miami Marlins tonight. Chase Anderson will pitch against Dillon Peters.
