Markham Memorial Run Postponed – Wednesday Sports Wrap

Running

The Thatcher Markham Memorial Run has been postponed. The run debuted last summer, as part of Bridgefest. When this year’s Bridgefest celebration was canceled, organizers hoped that they might still be able to hold the event as scheduled on June 19th. Now, despite an easing of COVID-19 restrictions, they say it’s apparent that a gathering that large will not be possible at that time. There is a possibility that the run may be rescheduled for later this summer.

NFL

Two-thirds of the teams in the NFL have met requirements set by the league and local governments to reopen their practice facilities. The Detroit Lions are not on that list, because of restrictions still in place in southern Michigan, which has been one of the hardest-hit areas in the nation by the COVID-19 pandemic. On WJR radio in Detroit yesterday, coach Matt Patricia said he expects it will be at least a couple of weeks before their Allen Park facility can open. The Packers have also not opened their facility, and say they have set no timetable to do so. Despite a ruling by the Wisconsin State Supreme Court striking down COVID-19 restriction in that state, Green Bay has also been a COVID-19 hotspot.
