McGann’s, Pat’s Foods Earn Slow Pitch Crowns – Monday Sports Wrap

Slow Pitch Softball

McGann’s/Northern Auto and Pats Foods/Bucko’s claimed championships in the Copper Country Slow Pitch Softball League tournament yesterday. McGann’s downed Koppers 13-3 in the Division A championship game, and Pat’s Foods edged Coca Cola/Sayens 13-11 to take the Division B crown. Alex Loukus from Koppers was named the Most Valuable Player in the playoffs. Jake Westphal won the Glenn Peterson Award.

MLB

The Tigers lost 4-1 to the Blue Jays yesterday. Detroit collected just three hits – one a home run by Javier Báez. Garrett Hill gave up all four Toronto runs over five innings. The Tigers committed four errors.

The Tigers visit the Twins tonight. Tarik Skubal will start for Detroit. Coverage begins at 7:20 on 99.3 The Lift.

Some of the Tigers’ wounded are on their way back. Manager A.J. Hinch confirmed yesterday that Matt Manning will start tomorrow’s game. He’s been out since mid-April with shoulder inflammation. Wily Peralta could also be activated tomorrow or Wednesday.

The Brewers fell to the Red Sox 7-2 yesterday. Aaron Ashby tossed four shutout innings, but left as Boston scored five runs in the fifth. Hunter Renfroe homered.

The Brewers have today off, and open a series in Pittsburgh tomorrow night. Corbin Burnes will start against Bryse Wilson.

Might Milwaukee reliever Josh Hader be on the trading block? There are reports the team is looking at offers. Hader has been a dominant reliever for the Crew for the past six years, but has struggled over the past month.

The Major League trading deadline is tomorrow at 6 p.m.
