MLB – Tigers Can’t Close Out Tribe
Buck Farmer struggled in his fill-in start for Justin Verlander, and the Detroit Tigers lost to the Cleveland Indians 8-2 yesterday. Farmer gave up five runs before leaving in the sixth inning. J.D. Martinez drove in Detroit’s only runs with a homer in the seventh.
After winning three of their four games in Cleveland, the Tigers return home to begin a four-game series with the Chicago White Sox this afternoon. Alfredo Simon will pitch against Carlos Rodon. Hear the first pitch at 1:08 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
Anticipating that Justin Verlander’s stiff back will loosen up in time for his next start, the Tigers sent Farmer back to Toledo after the game. They brought up reliever Bruce Rondon, who hasn’t pitched in the majors since September of 2013. He missed all of last season after Tommy John surgery, and all of this season with biceps tendinitis.
Jimmy Nelson turned in eight strong innings, as the Milwaukee Brewers got past the New York Mets 4-1. Milwaukee staked Nelson to a quick two-run lead in the first inning. He gave up just two hits, one a solo home run by Curtis Granderson.
The Brewers wrap up that set with the Mets this afternoon. Taylor Jungmann will start against Jacob deGrom.
