Morning Sports for Monday, May 12th:

MLB: Tigers Falter Late, Fall to Twins

Robbie Ray pitched six shutout innings in his second major-league start… but the Tigers wound up losing 4-3 to the Twins on Sunday. Detroit led 3-0 when Ray left the game… but Minnesota scored once in the seventh… and then plated three runs off Joba Chamberlain in the eighth to complete the comeback. Ian Kinsler homered for Detroit. The Tigers open a series at Baltimore tonight. Rick Porcello will face Bud Norris. Hear the first pitch at 7:05 on AM 1400, WCCY.

Brewers Win Walk-Off Against Yanks
Francisco Rodriguez was one strike away from his 16th save of the season when Mark Teixeira blasted home run to tie the score. But… the Brewers scored in the bottom of the ninth to pull out a 6-5 victory. Mark Reynolds’ two-out, two-strike single drove in the winning run. Teixeira’s homer snapped a streak of 19 scoreless appearances for Rodriguez. The Brewers have today off… and host the Pirates tomorrow night. Marco Estrada will pitch against Gerrit Cole.

Milwaukee third baseman Aramis Ramirez is headed to the disabled list with a strained hamstring. No move to replace him on the roster has yet been made. That decision may depend on whether Ryan Braun is ready to return tomorrow. Braun has been out with a ribcage muscle strain. Braun took batting practice yesterday, and said he felt good.

Lions, Packers Add Players in NFL Draft
After taking tight end Eric Ebron in the first round of the NFL Drat Thursday night, the Lions bolstered their defense by selecting Brigham Young University linebacker Kyle Van Noy in the second round Friday. Van Noy has overcome some adversity… including two alcohol-related incidents before he reached college, and an illness and surgery while at BYU. In the third round, Detroit selected Arkansas center Travis Swanson. He’ll be groomed to take over when Dominic Raiola retires.

On Saturday, the Lions took Utah State cornerback Nevin Lawson. Lawson also excelled on special teams. They selected defensive end Larry Webster from Bloomsburg University. His dad played in the NFL for a decade. They also chose Princeton defensive tackle Caraun Reid and Notre Dame receiver T.J. Jones. They used their final pick to get Boston College kicker Nate Freese… who could become David Akers’ replacement.

The Packers followed up on their first-round selection of Ha Ha Clinton-Dix Thursday by taking Fresno State wide receiver Davante Adams in the second round. He’s a big, physical player, who could be an immediate replacement for James Jones, who left as a free agent. In the third round, Green Bay chose defensive tackle Khyri Thornton from Southern Mississippi. Green Bay also had a compensatory pick at the end of the third round, which they used to take California tight end Richard Rogers. He’s considered a “project,” because of some injuries and coaching turnover in college.

On Saturday, the Packers selected Arizona linebacker Carl Bradford… Ohio State center Corey Linsley… Wisconsin receiver Jared Abbrederis… and Baylor cornerback Demetri Goodson. Goodson is a project… he transferred to Baylor and began playing football midway through college. Before that, he was the starting point guard on the Gonzaga basketball team. They closed their draft by taking Saginaw Valley State receiver Jeff Janis.
