Morning Sports for Thursday, May 8th:

MLB: Tigers Win Eighth Straight
Rick Porcello earned his fifth win of the season, as the Tigers edged the Astros 3-2 last night. Porcello gave up a run in the third. He left the game after allowing another in the seventh. Joba Chamberlain came in with two runners on base, and got Jose Altuve to ground out to second base to end the threat. He pitched a scoreless eighth, and Joe Nathan closed the game to earn his seventh save. All of Detroit’s runs came on homers – a two-run shot by Miguel Cabrera, and a solo blast by Victor Martinez.

The Tigers have won eight in a row… and wrap up that home series against the Astros this afternoon. Drew Smyly will face Dallas Keuchel… who shared a house with Smyly when both were students at the University of Arkansas. Hear the first pitch at 1:08 on AM 1400, WCCY.

Brewers Fall to D’Backs
The Brewers’ offense was quiet, as Milwaukee fell to the Diamondbacks 3-2. Wily Peralta flirted with danger through six inning… surrendering 11 hits, but allowing only two runs. Arizona scored the game-winner in the eighth, when pitcher Bronson Arroyo singled, advanced all the way to third base on a wild pitch… then came home on an error by Lyle Overbay. After compiling the best record in baseball in April, Milwaukee has lost five of seven in May. The Brewers have today off, and open an interleague set against the Yankees tomorrow night. Yovani Gallardo will start against Masahiro Tanaka.

NFL Draft Begins Tonight
The first round of the NFL draft takes place tonight. The Texans have the first pick. The Lions have the 10th selection, and the Packers will pick 21st. The second and third rounds will be held tomorrow night… and the final three rounds on Saturday.
