Morning Sports for Tuesday, April 1st

In baseball… the Tigers opened the regular season with a dramatic 4-3 victory over the Royals yesterday afternoon. New shortstop Alex Gonzalez singled in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Gonzalez also tripled in a run earlier in the game. Detroit fell behind when K-C scored three times off Justin Verlander in the fourth inning. Verlander pitched six innings. Joe Nathan got his first win as a Tiger after pitching a scoreless ninth. The Tigers have today off… and host the Royals again tomorrow. Max Scherzer will start against Jason Vargas. Hear the first pitch at 1:08 on AM 1400, WCCY.

Four Milwaukee pitchers held the Braves to just five hits, as the Brewers opened their season with a 2-0 victory. Both Brewers runs came in the fifth, on a double by Aramis Ramirez. Yovani Gallardo pitched six innings to earn the win. The Brewers host the Braves again tonight. Kyle Lohse will pitch against Alex Wood.

The Finlandia University softball games at Northland College scheduled for today have been postponed because of field conditions.

In the N-B-A last night… the Pistons proved that they’re not the worst team in the league… by beating the worst team in the league. Greg Monroe scored 28 points, and grabbed 14 rebounds, as Detroit edged the Bucks 116-111. The Pistons play at Indiana tomorrow night.

In the N-H-L… the Red Wings host the Bruins tomorrow evening. Faceoff is at 8:00 on AM 1400, WCCY.
