Morning Sports for Tuesday, May 6th:

MLB: Tigers Blank Astros
The “new look” Tigers struck again last night… and edged the Astros 2-0. The Tigers manufactured the winning run in the seventh inning. Andrew Romine’s first sacrifice bunt of the season moved Nick Castellanos to third base. Rajai Davis singled him home. Detroit added an “old school” exclamation point in the eighth inning, with a homer by Victor Martinez. Max Scherzer earned his fourth win of the season… allowing just three hits over eight innings, and striking out nine. He was helped by some fine defense… a running catch in deep right-center by Austin Jackson, a nifty play on a bad hop by third baseman Nick Castellanos, and a strike-em-out-throw-em-out double play to end the top of the eighth. Joe Nathan got the save. The Tigers continue that home series against the Astros tonight. Robbie Ray will make his first start for Detroit, since being obtained in the Doug Fister trade. He’ll face Brett Oberholtzer. Hear the first pitch at 7:08 on AM 1400, WCCY.

Brewers Ding Diamondbacks
The Brewers blasted three home runs, and pounded the Diamondbacks 8-3. Carlos Gomez, Martin Maldonado and Jean Segura went deep. Matt Garza pitched six innings, and earned his second win of the season. The Brewers host the Diamondbacks again tonight. Marco Estrada will start against Josh Collmenter.

Lions to Keep Suh
With the N-F-L Draft just ahead, Lions’ General Manager Martin Mayhew said yesterday that the team is not looking to trade defensive tackle Ndamokong Suh. Suh is entering the final year of his contract… and Mayhew said negotiations on an extension continue. Mayhew told reporters that the team’s practice of taking the best available player will continue in this year’s draft. The first round of the draft will be held Thursday night. The Lions will have the 10th pick in the first round. The Packers will have the 21st.

La Fleche du Nord Route Set
LA FLECHE DU NORDThe Route for Saturday’s La Fleche du Nord has been locked in. The course will cover 77 miles between Houghton and Copper Harbor. Changes had to be made because some areas are still too snow-covered to ride through. For the second year in a row, Brockway Mountain remains snowed in… so the event will end at the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge. 65 miles will be on pavement… and there will be four categorized climbs.
