MLB: Tigers Rained Out

The first game of the Tigers’ home series against the Indians scheduled for last night was rained out. No make-up date has been announced. Those two teams will play tonight. Anibal Sanchez will start against Zach McAllister. Hear the first pitch at 7:08 on AM 1400, WCCY.

After winning nine in a row, the Brewers have now lost two straight to the Cardinals. Last night, Milwaukee batters collected just three hits, while falling 6-1. Marco Estrada struggled through six innings… giving up single runs in the second, third and fourth. Full game details are here. That home set wraps up this afternoon. Wily Peralta will start against Joe Kelly. The Brewers open a four-game series at Pittsburgh tomorrow night.


Finlandia Baseball Falls at Carleton

The Finlandia University baseball team lost twice at Carleton College yesterday… 14-0 and 14-5. The Lions were held to just four hits in the first game (details arehere). In the second game, the Knights scored eight runs in the second inning, with help from four Finlandia errors (details are here). The Lions will play two tomorrow afternoon at Carroll University.

Finlandia Softball Opens Road Trip

The Finlandia softball team begins a three-day road trip with two games this afternoon at Lakeland College.


NHL: Red Wings Prep for Playoffs

The Red Wings continue preparations for the N-H-L playoffs. Team Captain Henrik Zetterberg has done some light skating… and says he may be ready to play if the Wings reach the second round. He’s recovering from back surgery. Detroit opens the playoffs at Boston Friday night. Hear the broadcast on AM 1400, WCCY.


NBA: Pistons End Season Tonight

The Pistons close their season tonight at Oklahoma City. Meanwhile, the search for a new general manager and coach gets underway. The club has confirmed plans to set up its own developmental team in Grand Rapids. A group of investors has purchased a D-League team in Springfield, Massachusetts, and will move it to West Michigan. It will be affiliated exclusively with the Pistons. Detroit has been sending D-League players to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants… along with players from five other N-B-A organizations.


NFL: Flynn to Stay with Packers

The team hasn’t confirmed it, but both ESPN and the NFL Network are reporting that the Packers have re-signed backup quarterback Matt Flynn.
