Morris number retired, Tig’s win-Monday Sports Wrap

MLB

The Detroit Tigers retired Jack Morris’ number in pregame ceremonies and then used a strong pitching performance by Matthew Boyd to stop Minnesota, 4-2, Sunday afternoon.  Boyd pitched six, gave up one run on two hits and a walk for his third win in his last four starts. After trailing since the second, Detroit scored three in the fifth to take the lead and eventually the series.  Shane Greene pitched a clean ninth for his 25th save.

Jacoby Jones may hit the DL after straining his right Hamstring.  The Tigers stay at home tonight for three with the Chicago White Sox.  Artie Lewicki will face Reynaldo Lopez, 6:45 PM, on 99.3 The Lift.

Milwaukee posted 19 hits, but couldn’t hold the lead, losing 8-7, Sunday in Atlanta.  The Braves took two of three at home in a potential playoff battle, remaining in first place in their division, but tied with the Brewers in a potential wild-card race.

Milwaukee will take today off, the head to Wrigley for a big two-game set against the Cubs.

Rick will also host a special monthly show from Finlandia’s campus and local businesses where he, coaches, players and FinnU staff will take questions from students and fans. The first show will be Thursday August 30 on campus. We’ll have Lions/Lift t-shirts to giveaway for participants at these shows and other select events.”
