MTU Cancels Summer Sports Camps – Monday Sports Wrap

MTU

Michigan Tech Recreation has canceled all of its 2020 summer sports camps and tournaments because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The decision followed the announcement late last week by university president Rick Koubek that all face-to-face instruction on campus would be suspended for the summer. Those who have registered for sports events will receive full refunds.

Finlandia

The Finlandia University baseball team has added another recruit. Ethan Spain is a left-handed pitcher from Decatur, Illinois.

NFL

Multiple reports say the Detroit Lions will decline the fifth-year option on linebacker Jarrad Davis. Davis was their first-round draft pick in 2017, at number-21 overall. He was limited last year because of an ankle injury.

The Chicago Bears are reportedly making the same move with quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. Trubisky was the number-two overall pick in 2017, but his inability to establish himself as the team’s offensive leader led to Chicago’s acquisition of Nick Foles from Jacksonville this spring.

Both players will remain with their respective clubs for now, and will become free agents at the end of this season.
