In high school hockey, Hancock opened its season Saturday afternoon with a 4-2 loss at Marquette. Zach Ahola and Hunter Kero each scored for the Bulldogs.

Jeffers lost to Sault Ste. Marie 6-1 in the opening game of the Soo Elks Tournament Friday night. The Jets bounced back to edge Big Rapids 5-4 Saturday afternoon.

In high school football tournament action for Upper Peninsula teams this weekend…
– In eight-man play, Cedarville lost to Lawrence 56-12 in the state title game.
– In the Division Eight semifinals, Munising edged perennial contender Beal City 10-7 Friday night at the Superior Dome. The Mustangs will play for the state title Friday morning at 10:00 against Muskegon Catholic Central.
– In Division Seven, Ishpeming got past Saginaw Michigan Lutheran Seminary 22-18 Saturday afternoon. The Hematites will face Detroit Loyola in the title game Saturday morning at 10:00.
– In Division Five, Menominee’s season ended with a 42-24 loss to Grand Rapids West Catholic.

MTU Hockey Falls Twice
Michigan Tech’s 10-game winning streak ended Friday night with a 2-1 loss to ninth-ranked Minnesota State. The top-ranked Huskies then fell to the Mavericks again 3-2 on Saturday. See video highlights of Friday’s game here, and Saturday’s game here.

The Michigan Tech football team took an early lead over Angelo State in the first-ever NCAA playoff game at Sherman Field. The Huskies couldn’t hold on, though, and lost to the Rams 42-41. Tech had a chance to win the game with a field goal with six seconds remaining, but the kick missed to the right. The Huskies close their season with a record of 9-2. The Tech women’s basketball team got off to an early lead, and were never headed, on the way to a 65-54 victory over 10th-ranked Concordia-St. Paul Friday evening. Danielle Blake led Tech with 23 points and nine rebounds.

The Tech men’s hoops team opened its season with a 60-58 victory at Minnesota-Duluth Saturday afternoon. The game was tied at 48 with nine minutes to go, when Luke Heller hit a couple of jump shots that put the Huskies ahead for good. Ben Stelzer led Tech with 28 points.

The MTU men’s cross country team ended its season by finishing eighth of 34 teams in their NCAA regional meet Saturday. Huskies’ sophomore Sean Pengelly placed 13th overall, and earned a berth in the nationals. The Tech women’s team finished 18th of 35 teams.

NMU Hockey Splits at Alaska
The Northern Michigan University hockey team edged Alaska-Anchorage 1-0 Friday night. The Huskies lost to the Seawolves 4-0 Saturday.

The Wildcats women’s basketball team fell to Concordia-St. Paul yesterday afternoon 70-69 in overtime. The Wildcats trailed by 20 early in the second half. They came back to force the overtime, but Abbey DeBruin’s last-second shot to win the game was blocked.

Finlandia Hockey Falls, Hoops Splits
The Finlandia men’s hockey team lost at Wisconsin-Stout 4-1 Friday night. The Lions fell at Wisconsin-Superior 4-1 Saturday night.

The Finlandia women’s hockey team lost at Concordia-Wisconsin 4-0 Saturday night.

The Finlandia men’s basketball team lost to Luther College 84-73 in their opening game at the Wisconsin-Oshkosh tournament Friday night. The Lions defeated Blackburn College 84-80 in the consolation game on Saturday. Jordan LaPlante’s three-pointer with 49 seconds remaining was the game-winner. LaPlante and Brandon Robinson each scored 20 for the Lions. Brandon Robinette added 19, and grabbed 12 rebounds.

The Finlandia women’s basketball team lost 70-58 to the University of Northwestern in the opening game of the Northwestern Tip-Off tourney Friday night. The Lions defeated North Central 78-63 Saturday. Marissa Burke led the Lions with 22 points in each game.

NHL – Red Wings Host Ottawa
The Detroit Red Wings host the Senators tonight.

NBA – Pistons
The Detroit Pistons play at Milwaukee tomorrow night. Tip-off is at 8:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

NFL
In NFL action yesterday, the Lions fell to the Patriots 34-9. Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford completed only 18 of 46 passes. The Lions host the Bears in their annual Thanksgiving game on Thursday. Hear all three Thanksgiving Day games on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

The Packers took over sole possession of first place in the NFC North by edging the Vikings 24-21. Aaron Rodgers threw two touchdown passes, and Eddie Lacy rushed for 125 yards. The Packers host the Patriots Sunday afternoon.

There are two games tonight. The regular Monday night game features Baltimore at New Orleans. Hear the broadcast on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY. Because of the heavy snow in western New York, the Jets-Bills game that was scheduled to be played yesterday at Buffalo will be played tonight at Ford Field in Detroit.
