MTU Hockey Schedule Released – Tuesday Sports Wrap

High School
In high school baseball yesterday, Houghton swept a doubleheader with Hancock, 2-0 and 5-2.

In high school softball yesterday, Calumet and Hancock split a doubleheader. The Copper Kings took the opener 15-2, and the Bulldogs came back to win the nightcap 13-3. L’Anse took two from Jeffers, 12-7 and 17-2.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University baseball team lost at Crown College 14-5 yesterday. The Lions  wrap up their schedule with another game at Crown College today.

MTU Hockey Schedule Released
The Michigan Tech hockey schedule was released yesterday. The Huskies will open the season with home games against Laurentian University October 9th and 10th. Lake Superior State will visit Houghton for the Winter Carnival Series. The Huskies will play an early home-and-home series against Northern Michigan October 23rd and 24th, and will close the regular season with another home-and-home set against the Wildcats March 4th and 5th.

MLB – Counsell Wins First Game
The Detroit Tigers had yesterday off, and open a series in Chicago against the White Sox tonight. Shane Greene will start against Jeff Samardzija. Hear the first pitch at 8:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

Brewers LogoThe Milwaukee Brewers rallied for three runs in the eighth inning, and defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3 last night. Ryan Braun’s RBI single gave new Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell a victory in his first game. Kyle Lohse gave up all three L-A runs over five innings.

The Brewers host the Dodgers again tonight. Matt Garza will pitch against Zack Greinke.

The Baraga County Women’s Slowpitch Softball League will hold its first meeting of the season tonight at 6:30 at the L’Anse VFW Hall. All teams must send a representative. If you have questions, or would like to play, call 231-7834.
