High School

This weekend’s Copper Island Classic varsity hockey games between Calumet and Hancock were postponed because of illness among members of the Bulldogs. No make-up date has been announced.

The 11-player high school football championships concluded Saturday at Ford Field in Detroit.
• In Division Eight, Ottawa Lake Whiteford defeated Ubly Friday 26-20.
• In Division Seven, Jackson Lumen Christi edged Traverse City St Francis 15-13 Saturday.
• In Division Six, Negaunee fell to Grand Rapids West Catholic 59-14 Friday. The Falcons scored 45 points in the second half, and set a new Michigan High School Athletic Association record for highest score in a championship game.
• In Division Five, Gladwin kicked a last-second field goal to slip past Frankenmuth 10-7 Saturday.
• In Division Four, Grand Rapids South Christian shut out Goodrich 28-0 Friday.
• In Division Three, Detroit Martin Luther King outscored Muskegon 56-27 Saturday.
• In Division Two, Warren De La Salle Collegiate overpowered Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central Friday, 52-13.
• In Division One, Belleville dispatched Caledonia 35-17.

College Hockey

The 20th-ranked Michigan Tech hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie with 10th-rated Minnesota State Saturday night. The Mavericks earned the extra Central Collegiate Hockey Association standings point in a shootout. David Jankowski and Tristan Ashbrook scored for the Huskies. Blake Pietila matched his career-high with 43 saves.

Northern’s hockey team, and both Finlandia hockey teams, had the weekend off.

College Basketball

The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team lost at 14th-ranked Minnesota-Duluth 99-65 Saturday. Eric Carl paced Tech with 11 points. The Huskies play at Saint Cloud State today.

The Northern men’s team lost 76-69 at Saint Cloud State Saturday, and plays at Minnesota-Duluth today.

The Tech women’s team shut down Minnesota-Duluth 61-46 Saturday. Ellie Mackay scored 17 points.

The Northern women’s team fell to Saint Cloud State 55-51 Saturday evening.

The Finlandia men’s team dropped an 82-64 decision to Aurora University Saturday afternoon. Ilrick Higgins-Moise led the Lions with 14 points.

NHL

The Red Wings host the Maple Leafs tomorrow night. Because of NFL football, coverage will begin at 7:45 on KBear 102.3.

NBA

The Pistons host the Cavaliers this evening.

NFL

The Packers visit the Eagles in the Sunday night game. Coverage begins at 7:30 on 99.3 The Lift.
