MTU Volleyball Falls in GLIAC Final, Awaits Possible NCAA Bid – Monday Sports Wrap

Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference

The MTU volleyball team fell 3-0 (17-25, 22-25, 18-25) to Ferris State University in the GLIAC tournament championship match yesterday. MacAulay Petersen and Rachel Ping were named to the GLIAC All-Tournament Team. Tech advanced to the finals by blanking Northern Michigan University 3-0 on Saturday. 

The Huskies are ranked fifth in the NCAA Division II Midwest Region. They’ll find out tonight if they make the national tournament field.

The Tech women’s basketball team lost 69-59 to Minnesota-Duluth yesterday. Hannah Hobson led the Huskies with 15 points.

The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team defeated Concordia-Saint Paul 65-60 yesterday.

Finlandia

The Finlandia University men’s basketball team lost 111-73 to Wisconsin-Stout yesterday. Devin Moultrie led the Lions with 16 points.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings lost their sixth straight game, 2-0 to the Carolina Hurricanes last night. Jimmy Howard stopped 34 of 35 shots. The Hurricanes’ final goal was a late empty-netter.

The Wings will host the Toronto Maple Leafs Wednesday. Coverage begins at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons entertain the Orlando Magic tonight.

NFL

Dustin Hopkins’ field goal with 16 seconds remaining lifted Washington to a 19-16 victory over the Detroit Lions yesterday afternoon. The game-winning kick came just a few plays after Washington had picked off a Jeff Driscoll pass. Driscoll threw for 207 yards, and tossed three interceptions.

The Green Bay Packers fell behind early, and lost to the 49ers in San Francisco 37-8 last night. Aaron Rodgers was held to just 104 yards passing on 20 completions.
