NASCAR to Resume May 17th – Friday Sports Wrap

NASCAR

NASCAR plans to resume its season May 17th. The first official event since March 8th will be held at Darlington Raceway. South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster has signed off on the event, even though he recently extended the state’s stay-at-home order through May 12th. There will be no fans in the stands. North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper has also given tentative approval to stage the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 24th.

NHL

With the National Hockey League still hoping to complete its 2019-2020 season this summer, the league is discussing a delayed start for the 2020-2021 campaign. Commissioner Gary Bettman says the break that would be needed between the delayed end of this season and the beginning of the next could push opening day back as far as December. Bettman said the league is hoping to reopen some practice facilities by mid-May, if local COVID-19 guidelines permit.
