NFL Expands Playoffs – Tuesday Sports Wrap

NFL

The NFL is expanding the playoffs. Beginning this season, seven teams from each conference will qualify for the postseason, instead of six. The top team from each conference will receive a bye. Wild Card weekend will include three games from each conference, instead of the current two.

NCAA

The National Collegiate Athletic Association has granted an extra year of eligibility to Division I student-athletes who have lost their spring seasons because of the COVID-19 shutdown. Scholarship limits will be adjusted to allow schools to continue supporting the fifth-year seniors, while still adding incoming freshmen. A similar decision had already been implemented for Division II and III athletes. Players from winter sports seasons who may not have been able to finish their campaigns will not get an additional year.
