MTU

The Michigan Tech volleyball team has been ranked 23rd in the nation in the preseason American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division II Poll.

The Huskies finished last season ranked at number 22 in the poll. They open their season a week from tomorrow at the Cal State Monterey Bay Tournament.

MLB

The Tigers gave up six runs in the eighth inning, and lost 8-4 to the Guardians last night. Detroit built an early advantage, with help from a Willi Castro home run. Daniel Norris turned in five innings, giving up just one run on four hits. Andrew Chafin opened the eighth by striking out two Cleveland batters. Luke Maile then swung at a pitch in the dirt on what would have been the inning’s third strikeout, but the ball skipped past catcher Eric Haase, and Maile reached first base safely. Six hits and an intentional walk later, and the Guardians had taken control.

The Tigers have today off, and host the Angels tomorrow. Matt Manning will start against Patrick Sandoval. Coverage begins at 6:50 on 99.3 The Lift.

Detroit starter Tarik Skubal will not only miss the rest of this season, he could also miss a good chunk of next season. Skubal underwent surgery on the flexor tendon in his left elbow yesterday. Doctors said the procedure was successful. Typical recovery time is six to nine months.

The Brewers collected just four hits, and fell 2-1 to the Dodgers last evening. The power outage spoiled a good start by Eric Lauer, who gave up two runs on four hits over seven innings, and struck out seven.

The Brewers host the Dodgers again this afternoon. Corbin Burnes will pitch against Andrew Heaney.
