NMU Women Open D2 Hoops Tourney Tonight – Friday Sports Wrap

High School

The last remaining Upper Peninsula boys basketball team in the state tournament was eliminated last night.
• In Division Four, Saint Ignace lost to Wyoming Tri-Unity 60-53. Tri-Unity will face Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart in the championship game tomorrow.
• In Division Three, Nile Brandywine will take on Detroit Old Redford for the title tomorrow.

Division One and Two semifinals will be played today.

College Hockey

Michigan Tech will host Minnesota State in a Central Collegiate Hockey Association semifinal tomorrow at 5:07. The Huskies are seeded fourth in the tourney, and the Mavericks fifth. Seventh-seed Lake Superior State plays at top-seed Bemidji State in the other semifinal. The winners will play for the Mason Cup a week from today. The highest-seeded remaining team will host the game.

College Basketball

Both Northern Michigan University basketball teams open the Division II NCAA regional tournament this weekend.
• The women are seeded fourth, and will face fifth-seed Kentucky Wesleyan tonight at 7:30 at Grand Valley State in Allendale.
• The men are also seeded fourth, and will meet fifth-seed Ferris State tomorrow at 7:30 at the University of Indianapolis.

GLHL

The Portage Lake Pioneers and Calumet Wolverines both have this weekend off.

NHL

The Red Wings’ losing streak reached seven games last night, with a 4-1 loss to the Coyotes. Lucas Raymond scored Detroit’s only goal. Alex Lyon stopped 23 of 26 shots, and took the loss in net.

The Wings entertain the Sabres tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 12:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons welcome the Heat tonight, with coverage at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB Spring Training

The Tigers blanked the Yankees 7-0 yesterday. Casey Mize allowed two hits over four innings, and struck out four. Five relievers held the Bronx Bombers to just one hit over the final five frames. Kerry Carpenter had a home run and a double, and drove in three runs.

The Tigers will split their squad for games against the Braves and the Blue Jays today.

The Brewers lost 4-2 to the Mariners yesterday. Robert Gasser started, and gave up a run over four innings. Eric Haase and Gary Sánchez homered.

The Brewers will face the Diamondbacks today. Joe Ross will start.

NFL

After reaching the NFC Conference Championship Game this past season, the Lions have extended the contracts of Head Coach Dan Campbell and General Manager Brad Holmes. They’ll be in place through the 2027 season.

The Lions beefed up their defense by signing veteran tackle DJ Reader yesterday. It’s a two-year deal worth up to $27.5 million. He’s played for the Bengals and the Texans.

The Packers have brought in running back Josh Jacobs, who averaged 1,100 rushing yards per season over the past five seasons with the Raiders.
