NMU Women to NCAA Tourney; MTU Women Left Out – Monday Sports Wrap

The girls basketball tournament regional semifinals will be played tonight. In Division Four at Kingsford, Baraga will face Munising at 6:00 Eastern time. Our coverage will begin around 5:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com. Ewen-Trout Creek will play Stephenson in the second semifinal.


The Finlandia University softball and baseball teams continue their Florida spring break schedules.

The softball team lost a 1-0 no-hitter to Salve Regina University, and then fell 4-1 to Washington and Jefferson College yesterday. The Lions face Husson University, and Westfield State University today.

The baseball team lost 15-3 and 11-9 to the Coast Guard Academy yesterday. Devonte Fleming hit a home run in the second game. The Lions will play Lasell College today.

GLIAC Basketball

The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball teamlost 65-58 to Ashland in the title match yesterday. NMU did earn a berth in the NCAA tournament, and will face Ashland again in the opening round Friday.

The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team did not receive an invitation to the NCAA tournament.


The Portage Lake Pioneers ripped the Fox Cities Ice Dogs 11-3 Saturday night. Mitchel Kumpula, Cody Sivonen, Matt Mantta and Jacob Norkol each scored twice.


The Detroit Red Wings lost to the Florida Panthers 6-1 yesterday. Detroit will visit the Montreal Canadiens tomorrow. Pregame coverage begins at 7:10 on 99.3 The Lift.


The Detroit Pistons blasted the Chicago Bulls 131-108 yesterday. Blake Griffin led the attack with 28 points, even though he rested the entire fourth quarter. The Pistons visit the Brooklyn Nets tonight. Pregame coverage starts at 7:05 on 99.3 The Lift.


The Detroit Tigers played to a 2-2 tie with a split New York Yankees squad yesterday in Grapefruit League play. Matt Moore threw four scoreless innings. The Tigers face the Minnesota Twins this afternoon. Listen for Tigers baseball again this season on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers outscored the Chicago Cubs 7-5 in Cactus League action yesterday. The Brewers will face the Chicago White Sox this afternoon.
