MLB
The Detroit Tigers scored seven runs in the fifth inning, and defeated the Miami Marlins 7-5 last night. The eruption against Miami starter Adam Conley came after Conley had struck out nine of the first 16 batters he faced. Jose Iglesias hit a two-run homer. Miguel Cabrera followed with a three-run shot to end Conley’s night, and Nick Castellanos closed the scoring with a two-run homer off reliever Nick Wittgren. Detroit starter Mike Pelfrey pitched into the sixth inning. He allowed 12 hits, and was charged with four runs. Shane Greene gave up the Marlins’ final run in the eighth.

Sanchez
Sanchez

The Tigers close out that quick set this afternoon. Daniel Norris will start against Tom Koehler. Hear the first pitch at 1:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Anibal Sanchez is back in the bullpen. Sanchez gave up four runs over five innings Saturday in his first start in nearly a month. Manager Brad Ausmus says it’s obvious that he still has some work to do to regain his form.

Anderson
Anderson

The Milwaukee Brewers’ late comeback fell short, as they lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-5 last night. Milwaukee starter Chase Anderson struggled, giving up eight hits before leaving two batters into the fifth inning. He was charged with all six L-A runs. The Brewers picked up a couple of runs in the third inning on an RBI double by Ryan Braun. They added three more in the bottom of the eighth on a double by Jonathan Lucroy and a sacrifice fly by Chris Carter, but couldn’t close the gap.

That series continues in Milwaukee this evening. Junior Guerra will pitch against Brock Stewart, who will be making his major league debut.

Before the game, the Brewers designated struggling outfielder Alex Presley for assignment, and purchased the contract of utility player Jake Elmore from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
