The Portage Lake Pioneers defeated the Calumet Wolverines 5-3 last night, to win the annual Gibson Cup series two games to none. It’s the second straight year in which Portage Lake has claimed the third-oldest trophy in hockey.

College Hockey

Denver and Boston College will play for the NCAA Division I hockey championship tonight at 6:00.

NHL

The Red Wings visit the Maple Leafs this evening. Coverage begins at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

None of the teams fighting for the final Eastern Conference Wild Card berth played last night. The Penguins hold a one standings point advantage over the Wings, Flyers and Capitals. Detroit, Pittsburgh and Washington each have three regular-season games remaining. Philadelphia has two.

The Coyotes will relocate from Phoenix to Salt Lake City. After weeks of rumors, team officials reportedly informed players about the move before last night’s game. It comes as the club is being purchased by Utah Jazz owners Ryan and Ashley Smith.

NBA

The Pistons stunned the Mavericks 107-89 last night. Chimezie Metu scored 22, Marcus Sasser added 20, and James Wiseman grabbed 10 rebounds. It was Detroit’s 14th win of the season, but they still hold the NBA’s worst record.

The Pistons wrap up their season at San Antonio tomorrow.

MLB

The Tigers pounded the Twins 8-2 last evening. In a windswept game that was delayed for more then an hour because of rain, Mark Canha homered. Tarik Skubal earned the win with five shutout innings. Minnesota’s runs came in the ninth off Will Vest.

The Tigers and Twins will play a straight doubleheader today, to make up for Thursday night’s rainout. Kenta Maeda will start the first game against Joe Ryan. Matt Manning will come up from Toledo to open the nightcap against Simeon Woods Richardson. Coverage will start at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers ripped the Orioles 11-1. Gary Sánchez, Willy Adames and William Contreras homered. Freddy Peralta gave up a run on five hits over six innings, and struck out 11. The contest was marred by a bench-clearing brawl in the sixth inning. Christian Yelich left the game in the second inning with tightness in his problematic back. He’ll be evaluated today.

Those teams play in Baltimore again this afternoon. D.L. Hall will pitch against Dean Kremer.
