Pistons’ Season Ends – Tuesday Sports Wrap

High School

In high school track today, Houghton and Calumet will compete at the Division One invitational at the Superior Dome.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers’ game at Boston last night was rained out. The Tigers and Red Sox will play a day-night doubleheader today. Pregame coverage for the first contest will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift. Matthew Boyd will pitch against Chris Sale. Coverage of the nightcap will start at 6:45. Spencer Turnbull will start against Hector Velázquez.

Adrian Houser struggled in his first major league start, as the Milwaukee Brewers lost to the Saint Louis Cardinals 13-5 last night. Houser gave up five runs over four innings. He allowed nine hits, including two home runs. The Cards put the game away by scoring seven times in the seventh inning off Jacob Barnes and Aaron Wilkerson. Milwaukee got home runs from Ryan Braun, Hernán Pérez, Yasmani Grandal and Travis Shaw.

The Brewers continue that series in Saint Louis tonight. Zach Davies will pitch against Daniel Ponce de Leon.

Junior Guerra is away from the team, with his family in Venezuela, where his father is gravely ill. Jake Petricka has been called up from San Antonio to fill in. To make room for Houser on the roster, Donnie Hart was sent down to the Missions.

NHL

In the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs last night…
– The Dallas Stars advanced to the next round by edging the Nashville Predators 2-1 in overtime. Dallas won that opening-round series 4-2.
– The Carolina Hurricanes forced a deciding game seven in their series against the Washington Capitals with a 5-2 victory.

On tonight’s schedule…
– The Toronto Maple Leafs visit the Boston Bruins.
– The Vegas Golden Knights face the Sharks in San Jose.
Both of those series are tied 3-3.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons’ season ended last night with a 127-104 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks in game four of their opening-round playoff series. Reggie Jackson led Detroit with 26 points. Blake Griffin added 22 before fouling out, in a game that saw the Bucks get 41 free throws, and the Pistons just 12.

In last night’s other game, the Utah Jazz defeated the Houston Rockets 107-91. Utah leads that series 3-1.

On the schedule tonight…
– The Orlando Magic visit the Toronto Raptors. Toronto leads that series 3-1.
– The Brooklyn Nets face the 76ers in Philadelphia. Philly is up 3-1 in that series.
– The San Antonio Spurs visit the Denver Nuggets. That series is tied 2-2.
– The Oklahoma City Thunder visit the Portland Trail Blazers. Portland leads that series 3-1.

Finlandia

The Finlandia University softball team split its doubleheader against Bay College yesterday afternoon, winning the opener 9-6, and dropping the nightcap 7-6. In the opening game, Denia Bent hit a three-run homer, and pitched a complete game for the win. Cassy Lopez had four hits. In the second contest, Bent had three hits.

The Lions baseball team’s games at Northland College yesterday were canceled.
