In high school volleyball tonight…
– Houghton welcomes Lake Linden-Hubbell.
– Hancock hosts L’Anse.
– Calumet entertains Gwinn.
– Chassell journeys to Wakefield-Marenisco.
– Ontonagon welcomes Watersmeet.
– Ewen-Trout Creek hosts Bessemer.

In cross country, local teams will run at the Houghton Invitational on the Tech Trails this afternoon.

Finlandia
Both Finlandia University soccer teams play at Crown College this evening.

MLB
The New York Yankees punched their ticket to the baseball playoffs last night, with a 7-2 victory over the Oakland Athletics in the American League Wild Card play-in contest.

The National League Divisional Series begin tonight. The Milwaukee Brewers host the Colorado Rockies. Antonio Senzatela will start for the Rockies. The Brewers plan a “bullpen” game, and have not designated a starter. The Los Angeles Dodgers entertain the Atlanta Braves.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings open the regular season tonight at home against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Because of NFL football on 99.3 The Lift, pregame coverage will begin at 7:05 on KBear 102.3.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons opened their NBA preseason schedule with a 97-91 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder last night. Andre Drummond led Detroit with 31 points and 16 rebounds. Blake Griffin and Reggie Jackson did not play. Detroit’s next exhibition game will be Friday against the Spurs in San Antonio. Listen for selected Pistons regular-season games on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL
