Tigers Fall Late to Angels
David Freese’s eighth-inning home run off Joba Chamberlain lifted the Angels to a 2-1 victory over the Tigers yesterday. The late shot spoiled a fine outing by Rick Porcello… who gave up just one unearned run on five hits over seven innings. Detroit’s only run came off a double by Victor Martinez in the first inning. The Tigers have scored only twice in their last three games.

The Tigers have today off, and return home to open a set against the White Sox tomorrow night. Anibal Sanchez will start against Jose Quintana. Hear the first pitch at 7:08 on AM 1400, WCCY.

Kansas City also lost… so Detroit’s lead in the American League Central Division remains at five games.

Brewers Blanked by Mets
The Brewers’ offense was equally quiet yesterday in a 2-0 loss to the Mets. Rookie Jimmy Nelson turned in his best start of the season… throwing seven strong innings. His only mistake was a sixth-inning pitch that Lucas Duda turned into a two-run homer.

The Brewers open an interleague series at Tampa Bay tonight. Kyle Lohse will start against Jake Odorizzi.

The Cardinals and Pirates both won… so Milwaukee’s lead in the National League Central Division drops to two games over Saint Louis. The Pirates are three games back.

Portage Lake 9-10Portage Lake 9-10’s Ousted from State Tourney
The Portage Lake Little League 9-10 team lost to the South Portage team from the Kalamazoo area 9-1 yesterday. The local all-stars opened pool play Friday with an 8-2 loss to Lincoln Park North… then lost Saturday 7-2 to Roosevelt Park. That left Portage Lake at the bottom of their four-team pool. The top two teams from each pool advance to elimination play today. Congratulations to the Portage Lake 9-10 All Stars on a great tournament run.
