MLB – Tigers
Shane Greene struggled again, and the Detroit Tigers’ weary bullpen fared no better, as they lost to the Boston Red Sox 11-1 last night. Greene gave up 11 hits and five runs before leaving with one out in the fifth. Kyle Ryan and Neftali Feliz each gave up three runs. Detroit’s only score came on a Nick Castellanos home run. David Ortiz hit two home runs and drove in seven for Boston.

The Tigers open a series at Tampa Bay tonight. Anibal Sanchez will start against Nathan Karns. Hear the first pitch at 7:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

The Tigers brought Ryan up from Toledo yesterday, and sent recently-signed first baseman Marc Krauss down to the Mud Hens.

The groin strain that forced Alfredo Simon to leave Saturday’s game early seems to be minor. Team officials have not placed him on the disabled list, and hope he may be ready for his next scheduled start on Thursday.

Detroit is now two games under .500, 11.5 games behind the Royals in the American League Central, and four games out of the second wild card playoff spot, with four teams ahead of them. The Central Division-leading Royals bolstered their starting rotation yesterday by sending a group of prospects to the Reds for Johnny Cueto.

The Milwaukee Brewers collected only four hits, and fell to the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-0 yesterday. Matt Garza gave up all three Arizona runs over 5-2/3rds innings, and took the loss.

The Brewers begin a series at San Francisco tonight. Kyle Lohse will pitch against Chris Heston.
