MLB – Tigers Blast Bosox
Yoenis Cespedes and Nick Castellanos homered, as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Boston Red Sox 5-1 yesterday. Castellanos’ shot cleared the infamous “Green Monster” wall in left field, and sailed out of the park. Alfredo Simon pitched effectively, giving up just one run before leaving in the seventh inning with an injury. There’s been no official word as to what that injury was, or how serious it might be.

The Tigers conclude that series at Boston tonight. Shane Greene will start against  Eduardo Rodriguez. Hear the first pitch at 8:08 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

Jungmann
Jungmann

Taylor Jungmann gave up two runs in the first inning, and no one scored after that, as the Milwaukee Brewers fell to the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-0. Jungmann allowed just four hits over six innings, but was outpitched by Rubby De La Rosa, who scattered four hits over eight innings.

The Brewers wrap up that series at Arizona this afternoon. Matt Garza will pitch against Jeremy Hellickson.

Peralta
Peralta

Milwaukee first baseman Adam Lind left yesterday’s game in the second inning with tightness in his back. Lind has been dogged by back issues throughout his career. Manager Craig Counsell says he’ll rest Lind today, and hopes the tightness will ease by Monday.

Brewers’ starter Wily Peralta will return from the disabled list, and is scheduled to start Tuesday’s game at San Francisco. Team officials say they won’t immediately remove someone from the rotation, pending a potential deal for one or more starters before the July 31st trade deadline.

Portage Lake Minors Win, Majors Fall
2015-07-18 - Portage Little League 9-10 ChampsMatthew Isaacson had the game-winning RBI and a two-out save with the tying run in scoring position to propel the Portage Lake All-Stars to a 4-3 victory over Tecumseh in the 9-10-year-old state tournament yesterday. Isaacson drove home Gaborik Carlson with a line drive up the middle in the top of the sixth for a 4-2 PL advantage. Tecumseh put the tying run on base with one out in the last of the sixth. Isaacson came on to pitch and induced a ground out to third which scored a run for a 4-3 margin. The tying run moved up to third on a wild pitch, but Isaacson struck out the batter for the final out. Portage Lake had seven hits while holding Tecumseh to just two. Levi Frahm got the start on the mound, striking out five over three innings before a 45-minute lightning delay. PL put up three runs in the delayed top of the fourth inning—one before the delay and two after—for a 3-1 advantage. Carlson took the hill and allowed just one hit until Isaacson entered in the sixth.

On Friday, Portage Lake suffered its first loss of the year with an 8-2 setback to Bay City Northwest in the opening game of pool play at the state tournament in St. Clair. Portage scored in the top of the first inning for a 1-0 lead and trailed just 2-1 after three. Bay City was able to bring across two runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth for an 8-1 lead. PL went down swinging, scoring one and loading the bases in the top of the sixth before succumbing. Portage Lake posted six hits including two off the bat of starting pitcher Dylan Primeau.
