MLB
Jarrod Saltalamacchia’s two-run homer in the eighth inning lifted the Detroit Tigers to a 4-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox last night. Detroit took an early lead in the third inning on a Miguel Cabrera sacrifice fly. Chicago responded with two runs off Matt Boyd in the fourth. The Tigers tied it with a solo Justin Upton homer in the sixth, but the Sox retook the lead when Tyler Saladino homered off Alex Wilson in the seventh. Justin Wilson got the win in relief.

The Tigers host the White Sox again tonight. Daniel Norris will start against Anthony Ranaudo. Hear the first pitch at 7:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Cleveland also won, so the Tigers are still four and a half games back in the American League Central Division.

Tigers center fielder Cameron Maybin left the game after aggravating his sprained thumb while sliding into second base. X-rays showed no serious damage, and he will undergo an MRI today.

Detroit center fielder Alex Presley is returning to Toledo. Presley was designated for assignment two days ago, when shortstop Jose Iglesias was brought off the disabled list. Meanwhile, Mike Pelfrey made his first rehab start for the Mud Hens last night. He gave up three hits and a run over three innings.

A throwing error on a sacrifice bunt allowed the winning run to score in the ninth inning, as the Milwaukee Brewers fell to the St. Louis Cardinals 6-5 last night. When Jonathan Villar’s off-target throw got past Scooter Gennett at second base, Stephen Piscotty scampered home to break the tie. Milwaukee had a 5-3 lead after scoring four in the seventh inning, but Corey Knebel and Tyler Thornburgh couldn’t hold it. Thornburgh took the loss. Orlando Arcia homered for Milwaukee.

The Brewers entertain the Cardinals again tonight. Wily Peralta will pitch against Adam Wainwright.

Junior Guerra has completed his rehab assignment, and will rejoin the Milwaukee rotation Friday against the Pirates.
