MLB
Anibal Sanchez took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, but the Tigers wound up losing to the Kansas City Royals 4-1 last night. Eric Hosmer broke up the no-hit bid with a double. Sanchez completed the seventh. He left the game with a 1-0 lead, thanks to a Victor Martinez home run in the second inning. The Royals tied the game with a solo homer off Justin Wilson in the eighth, and the Royals broke it open with three runs off Shane Greene in the ninth.

The Tigers open a home series against the Boston Red Sox this afternoon. Matt Boyd will start against Clay Buchholz. Hear the first pitch at 1:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Cleveland also lost yesterday, so the Tigers continue to trail the Indians by six games in the American League Central Division. Detroit has lost eight of their last 10 games.

Add yet another Tiger to the injury list. Tyler Collins left last night’s game after he was struck in the knee by a pitch. X-Rays showed no damage, but he could miss a few days. With center fielder Cameron Maybin already on the disabled list, Detroit sent outfielder Steven Moya back to Toledo after the game – just a day after calling him up. Alex Pressley could be called up from the Mud Hens today to fill in in center field. Detroit signed him last month, after the Brewers designated him for assignment.

The Chicago Cubs scored five runs in the first inning, and cruised to a 6-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers last night. Jimmy Nelson recovered from the opening onslaught, and went on to complete five innings. He was charged with all six Chicago runs.

The Brewers wrap up that series at Chicago this afternoon. Zach Davies will start against Jake Arrieta.

NFL
The Detroit Lions continue their preseason schedule tonight, as they host the Cincinnati Bengals. Yesterday, the Lions waived receiver Alex Chisum, and signed free agent offensive lineman Lemuel JeanPierre. JeanPierre spent the past six seasons with the Seahawks.

The Green Bay Packers entertain the Oakland Raiders tonight. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers will likely not play in the game. Receiver Jordy Nelson won’t, either – but his achy knee did pass a physical yesterday, and he was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list.
