Ski Tigers’ Championship Streak Ends – Monday Sports Wrap

High School

The Copper Country Ski Tigers’ eight-year string of state championships ended over the weekend, as they hosted the Michigan High School Nordic Ski Championship at the Tech Trails. The girls team placed first, led by Ingrid Seagren, The boys team finished second, led by Mike Fraley, who was the individual champion. Total points, though, left the Tigers in second place, just behind the VASA team from Traverse City. See full results here.

In high school swimming Saturday…
• At their triangular with Marquette and Sault Ste. Marie, the Houghton boys finished second, and the girls came in third. See full results here.

College Basketball

The Finlandia University men’s basketball team fell to Coe College 112-62 yesterday. Nico Carter led FinnU with 12 points.

The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team lost 58-32 to Grand Valley yesterday.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings host the Chicago Blackhawks tonight. Coverage begins at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Wings waived defenseman Danny DeKeyser yesterday. DeKeyser has struggled since returning from back surgery. If no team claims him by noon today, he can be assigned to the taxi squad, or to the Grand Rapids Griffins.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons won their second straight game last night, downing the New Orleans Pelicans 123-112. Josh Jackson led a balanced Detroit attack with 21 points, and Mason Plumlee had a triple double, with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.
