SNB Earns Fast Pitch Tourney Title – Friday Sports Wrap

MLB
The Detroit Tigers return from the All-Star break tonight, when they open a home set against the Boston Red Sox. Matthew Boyd will start against former Tiger David Price. Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers will resume play at home against the Los Angeles Dodgers this evening. Wade Miley will pitch against Rich Hill.

Fast Pitch Softball
Superior National Bank win the Copper Country Women’s Fast Pitch Softball League tournament championship last night, with a 12-2 victory over Auto Pro Glass and Tire. SNB got off to a quick start, with three runs in the first inning, and three more in the third. Auto Pro responded with a pair of runs on an RBI double by Kyleigh Audette in the fourth inning, but SNB added three in the fifth on a triple by Janie Berg, and ended the game early under the 10-run mercy rule by plating three more in the sixth. Rosalie Anderson was the winning pitcher, with relief help from Adena Anderson. Sarah Audette took the loss.

Twilight League
In Copper Country Twilight League baseball last evening…
– Superior National Bank-Stanton got past Dean Kangas-State Farm 4-1.
– Wolverine-Orbit defeated REL-Mohawk Technologies 15-3.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University volleyball team has a new coach. Cindy Cavanagh spent the last two years as Program Manager of the Top Flight Volleyball Club in Illinois. Her team was the runner-up at the AAU Nationals in 2017. She was a standout player and team captain at Carthage College.

Canal Run
Online registration for tomorrow’s Canal Run has closed. Late registration will take place today between 3:00 and 8:00 at the Finnish-American Heritage Center.

Because of flood damage along the traditional course, races have been re-routed to end at McLain State Park this year. Participants and supporters are asked to park at First Apostolic Lutheran Church, two miles west of Calumet on M-203. Shuttle buses will run continuously between there, the starting points, and the finish line.
