MLB
The Minnesota Twins used three big innings to blast the Detroit Tigers 15-8 last night. The Twins scored three times in the first inning, and five times in the second – all off starter Francisco Liriano. They put the game away with seven runs in the sixth inning, sending 12 men to the plate against relievers Zach McAllister and Alex Wilson. The pitching meltdown wasted four Detroit home runs – by Nicholas Castellanos, Mikie Mahtook, James McCann and Niko Goodrum.

The Tigers continue that series against the Twins in Minnesota tonight. Matthew Boyd will start against Kyle Gibson. Because of Detroit Lions football, pregame coverage will begin at 7:45 on KBear 102.3.

The Milwaukee Brewers had yesterday off, and begin a set at St. Louis tonight. Freddy Peralta will pitch against Jack Flaherty.

Twilight League
Superior National Bank-Stanton won the Copper Country Twilight League tournament title last night, with a crisp 9-0 victory over Wolverine-Orbit at the Wolverine field. Eli Luoma pitched the complete game shutout for the Wildcats, striking out six batters. Hans Stimac took the loss for Wolverine. SNB took the lead early, with a three-run second inning. They put the game away with three runs in the seventh. In the two-game sweep, Stanton pitchers allowed just one unearned run. Luoma shared the tournament Most Valuable Player Award with Justin Kirby.  Stanton’s Tyler LaDuron earned the MVP award for the season.

NFL
The Green Bay Packers outscored the Pittsburgh Steelers 51-34 in their second exhibition game last night. The Pack struck early and often, building a 34-14 halftime lead. Aaron Rodgers threw a touchdown pass in his first brief appearance of the preseason. DeShone Kizer tossed two TD passes, and the Green Bay defense returned two interceptions for scores. Mason Crosby kicked three field goals.

The Detroit Lions host the New York Giants in preseason play tonight. Kickoff is at 7:00 on the Keweenaw’s home for the Lions, 99.3 The Lift.
